Mountain Brook's Elementary Teacher of the Year

Nidza Miller has been selected as Mountain Brook's Elementary Teacher of the Year. She currently teaches Spanish at two of our elementary schools, Brookwood Forest and Crestline. She has taught kindergarten, 1st, 4th and 5th grades, as well as on the college level. Her experience includes teaching in the Houston Independent School District, Yonkers Schools in New York, and Houston Community College. She is a member of the National Association of Bilingual Educators, American Association of Teachers of Spanish & Portuguese, and the Association of Certified Teachers of Foreign Languages. Nidza has served on numerous curriculum committees for the Mountain Brook Schools and has been active in professional development throughout her career. Her commitment to the community is evidenced by her work with the Girl Scouts and the English as A Second Language Program in Birmingham. She is a finalist for the Birmingham Post Herald Distinguished Teacher Award (awaiting notification). Her education includes degrees and advanced work at Texas Women's University, University of Houston, Long Island University, University of Alabama, and Samford.
