The Critical Choice - Downside
As a result, some schools are floundering -
- they aren’t implementing the complete approach to literacy taught by the ARI
- the reading specialist is only part-time and may have little more training than the teachers
- they don’t do frequent assessments
- they don’t do small group instruction
- central offices not committed to the ARI replace principals - sometimes immediately after training - and the new principal has other priorities
- principals have skipped much of the training and have little sense of what is possible
