Job Opening: Program/Project Coordinator

The Alabama Best Practices Center, a division of the A+ Education Foundation, seeks an organized, committed, enthusiastic individual to support and manage the different projects and programs administered through the organization. The purpose of the Alabama Best Practices Center is to help teachers and administrators develop the competence, commitment and courage to do whatever it takes to improve student learning.

Some of the responsibilities of the Program Coordinator include:

Powerful Conversations Network: The Powerful Conversations Network is made up of more than 200 schools across Alabama that are interested in improving teaching and learning. School teams meet quarterly. Additionally, school leaders participate in a Key Leaders Network that meets three times a year to help them better manage change and address resistance. Several school districts are involved in the Network and targeted assistance is provided to those districts, based on their specific needs. Additionally, some schools participate in the ABPC’s 21st Century Initiative. In Fall 2008, we are launching a Superintendent’s Leaders Network, which this position would help support.

  1. Manage Data: Help project manager improve data collection and data management. Help identify key data that needs to be collected and analyzed. Work with external evaluator to plan evaluation and collect necessary data. Keep electronic database current and notebook current. Look for trends and provide information and insights on data to project manager and design team. Knowledge and use of Microsoft Access and Excel a plus.
  2. Meeting Planning Support: Assist project manager in planning the focus and content of the Powerful Conversations Network activities annually. Interact with members of the Powerful Conversations Design Team and Advisory Committee to obtain their input and suggestions about meetings. Provide direction and assistance to executive assistant in planning, coordinating and managing quarterly meetings, meetings of the Key Leaders Network and other meetings scheduled by project manager. Attend meetings.
  3. Presentation Support: Assist project manager in conceptualizing, researching, developing and preparing presentations, including necessary logistical and material support. Ability and willingness to give presentations is a plus.
  4. Inquiry Group Management: Plan and manage afternoon inquiry sessions of the Quarterly Meetings and develop relationships with participants and inquiry group facilitators. With project manager and consultants, develop materials for use during the inquiry groups.

21st Century Learning Project (Strand of Powerful Conversations Project):

  1. Serve as assistant project manager for this work. Specific responsibilities include:
    1. Becoming proficient with Elluminate web-based learning platform and to participate and assist in presentations. This includes fully participating in the sessions, trouble-shooting, building relationships with participants, issuing invitations, reminding schools of upcoming sessions, providing orientations of the site if necessary and helping deliver the presentations.
    2. Becoming proficient with the Ning social network environment and helping manage its content. This includes working with the lead consultant on content, encouraging participants to engage by giving tours of the site, and keeping up-to-date with the comments added.
    3. Meeting planning support: Help Project Manager plan meeting (content). Provide direction and assist Executive Assistant in planning, coordinating and managing all face-to-face meetings (logistics). Attend and participate in meetings.
General Responsibilities:
  1. General support of projects and project managers
    1. Conceptualizing, researching and creating PowerPoint presentations
    2. Assisting in developing handouts and evaluation materials
  2. Assisting with telephone when needed
  3. Conducting tasks as assigned by the Project Managers
